Smith College Softball took down the United States Coast Guard Academy in their senior game on April 22. The Pioneers won 9-0 (five innings) and 6-4 in game one and two respectively. Ally Snyder ’17 made her last home game appearance, sending out two home runs. This put her at a career high with 20 home runs and a season record of nine home runs. Natalie Burchat ’17 had her last appearance at a Smith home game. She pitched a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and one walk. Senior Ruth Zimmerman also had two hits. Smith started off their first game strong, tallying three runs on the board in the first inning. Smith scored four more runs in the fourth inning, winning the game at 9-0. In their second game against Coast Guard, all nine Smith players recorded hits, starting with Tyler Feeney ’19. Rowan Turner ’18 only let up four runs out of five hits. She also nailed two hits. The Pioneers’ second win against Coast Guard began with Snyder’s 20th career home run in the second inning. Coast Guard did not answer back until the third inning, but that did not discourage the Pioneers. We scored four runs in the fourth inning to take back the lead and end the game with a 6-4 win. Smith Softball closed out their season with a split double header against Wheaton College the following day (0-3 and 2-1).
