This week, I decided to try another Northampton staple, Local Burger. This burger joint has a bit of a vintage but casual feel. There is limited seating inside, so if you are planning on eating in, you might not get a table right away. Due to its popularity and nature of the space, the usually packed tables make for a pretty loud environment. So, I wouldn’t recommend going to Local Burger to study or to have a quiet conversation with someone.

The menu isn’t very extensive, but there is more than what you’d expect from a typical casual burger joint. Aside from the normal beef burger, there are also burgers made with local beef, turkey and veggies. There are also plenty of toppings to add to these options, if you wanted to go with a custom burger as opposed to one of their pre-made options. Local Burger also boasts several creative and tasty side dish options. Aside from the normal side of fries, they also offer sweet potato fries with their own maple honey mustard dip. My friends and I split some regular fries and a basket of their fried pickles with zesty ranch dip. These were both interesting and tasty. As a pickle lover, I appreciated these breaded, fried and still juicy slices of sour goodness. Then, of course, there are the milkshakes. There are the standards, like chocolate and vanilla, as well as a few seasonal specials like pumpkin Oreo.

The people behind the counter taking orders were all pretty friendly, even though there were a lot of customers and only a few of them. They were patient and polite under stressful conditions. Some other features local burger has to offer is their gluten-free buns option, as well as vegetarian burgers. Of course, there are also Local Burger’s convenient late hours. Friday and Saturday, they are open until 3 a.m.
