Nestled in a corner right off of Main Street, one of the Valley’s favorite doughnuts shops has opened a location in Northampton as of August, attracting Northampton residents and Smithies alike with its unique and elaborate variety of doughnuts. The gourmet doughnut shop located at 8 Crafts Avenue is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
For my first trip, I opted for the cookie dough doughnut, which was rectangular as opposed to the usual circular doughnut shape. Glazed all over, it had a layer of chocolate chip cookie dough spread across the top. Other flavors include marble-frosted Boston creme, chai- glazed, vanilla glazed, vanilla frosted, chocolate glazed, raspberry chocolate and apple fritter, among others.
The raspberry-chocolate in particular had the perfect amount of sweetness; not overwhelmingly sugary but enough to satisfy a craving. Chocolate Oreo peanut butter French toast, beignets and cinnamon bowties were also among the popular selections. The doughnuts aren’t too small which makes them a great afternoon snack or an after-dinner dessert.
Glazed also offers vegan and gluten-free options which include a variety of glazed doughnuts, including maple glazed, vanilla glazed and raspberry glazed. In addition to doughnuts, they offer a variety of coffees to go along with the sweet treat, making Glazed a good venue for a quick breakfast stop or a coffee date. They also do larger fritters and birthday-cake-sized doughnuts and day-old doughnuts are $1 after 10 p.m.
Although the venue doesn’t have many tables, it is spacious enough to accommodate a long line of customers waiting to order doughnuts to-go. However, if you manage to get a table, the environment is relaxed and easy-going, with a young vibe, filled mostly with college students. The doughnuts are generally pricier than Dunkin Donuts or a generic doughnut shop, but their unique flavors, vast variety and reasonable size makes Glazed a good value for the money.
